Academic work
Right after moving to Finland, I started my PhD research at the University of Helsinki, unit of Musicology. Pursuing my academic post-graduate career without funding has let me dedicate only so much of my time to it. In fact, I have pretty much done it in my free time.
Nevertheless, so far I've been able to achieve a number of cool peer-reviewed article publications and, most of all, my Licentiate thesis (in Finland, the Licentiate of Philosophy is an intermediate degree on the way towards the Doctorate). I'm confident I'll be able to complete and defend my doctoral thesis in the next few years as well. After many changes of the research field and topic, I narrowed my efforts to the role and performing techniques of heavy metal singing, practically shifting most of my attention from the cultural aspects of heavy metal music towards more performance-related ones. Nowadays most of my attention and focus are absorbed by the vocology and phoniatrics proper of rock and heavy metal singing, both in clean and distorted vocals.
